Questions for the Week of May 7th

Hello Zachary Beaver group! We hope you enjoyed the end of the book! Please don't forget to come to class on Wednesday with one idea on how you can create change in our world.

  1. Toby thinks about Cal's brother Wayne a lot. Why might this be? Is Cal concerned about his brother serving in Vietnam? Is Toby?
  2. The friends successfully baptize Zachary in the river. What does this symbolize?

I think the reason why Toby thinks about Wayne a lot is because he thinks Wayne's really cool. Also, Toby doesn't have any siblings, so he thinks of Wayne as his big brother.

Cal and Toby are concerned about Wayne, but I don't think Cal cares as much as Toby.

Toby and Cal care about Zachary. If they didn't, why would they try so hard to baptize him. The three of them are friends.

The book may have gotten off to a boring start, but I think it turned out pretty good at the end. What do you guys think?

I think they bolth really worry about Wayne a lot its just that Toby shows it more than Cal dose.I think it means that they have become good friends but there are still a littel bumps in the road to thier friend ship.

I agree with gan5. Wayne acted like a brother to Toby and so it just makes sense that you'd think about him a lot. Im not sure about Cal though. since it doesnt talk about him a lot, its hard to tell if hes concerned. He was definitely sad/mad when Wayne died though. Toby is definitely concerned. Once again I agree with gan5 except for the fact of the three of them being friends. I did not like the book at all. It started out slow and nevr really sped up. It was quite boring if you ask me.

I did enjoy reading this book, but it was not overly glamorous. I couldn't agree with you more gan5!
I think that Toby thinks about Wayne a lot because he doesn't have someone cool like Wayne to look up to. I've had a similair feeling to that. One of my nephews is sooo cool, but he's older than me so he hangs out with his friends a lot. I can totally understand! Cal is really good at hiding his emotions so I think he loves Wayne a lot. I think Toby cares about him, too! I think when Toby, Cal, Kate, Malcom, and Ferris baptized Zachary, it symbolized that they care about him and that they'll miss him when he leaves. For once it was a good thing that Cal was so nosy.

Hope you guys enjoyed Lit Circles!!!

I think Toby worrys a little more about his brother Wayne than Cal but all in all they both worry about him though. And when they succesfuly baptize him in the river i think it symbolizes friend ship i hadt o do anonomous this is my real name

I think Cal is as concerned as Toby about Wayne. He's just not letting it out, 'cuase the truth hurts a lot depending on what the truth is. Zachary got baptized in the river. It symbolizes that (1) oviously and (2) they are good friends. I agree with 99.9%. the 00.1% I don't agree with is "it turned out pretty good at the end". It didn't turn out very good for Wayne. Well at least he --wait I am not going to be a spoiler. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

i think it was kinda like what gan5 said.

Hello, I think Toby cares about Wayne a lot because Toby felt like Wayne was a brother to Toby. I think Cal cares cares but it seems like Toby cares more.

It symbolizes that Zahary feels better so when people ask he can say that he has gotten baptized.

2. I was really glad that Zachary agreed to come to the lake to get baptized. I thought he would not go and then he would leave Antler without really making his trip worth it. I think this was the right thing to do becuase obviously Zachary wanted to be baptized but was just afraid to. I think what Cal and Toby did symbolizes the friendship that grew between Cal, Toby, and Zachary. They really became close to each other and learned each others feelings. Toby and Cal put aside the fact that Zachary was different and tried to help him, the way they would to any friend.

HELLOOOOO!!!!!! i'm sorry ms. borchardt and ms. yuenger- i have already explained it to ms. yuenger, ms. borchardt. I Cannot find my book at all, nada, zip, zilch, squidtch. So, i will personally pay for any costs that the library charges if i can't find it in the next few days. Ms. y, just cal me or email me or tell me in class or somethin how much the book would be.
dear gan5 ( i know who you are...) I THINK THIS BOOK HAD A PERFECTLY WONDERFUL START!!!!! I LOVED THIS BOOK FROM THE BEGINNING!!! well, maybe not love, but like, think its pretty good and at least not BORING!!!!!
I can answer the first question, although not so much the secon question. ( Sorry, teachers- I guess i just figured out a pretty big part of the end of the book- i kinda expected somethin like that to happen, though, so its okedokee okay.
ANYWAY, I think Toby kinda just needs a role model or somethin. He is a little obesessed with Wayne- i think it is really sad that he dies. I COULDN"T BELIEVE IT!!! my cousin is going to Iraq soon and he is really young and he might die so it is a little scary and depressing well not really depressing but kind of like a littloe nagging thought in your brain... my cousin might bet shot, he might get blown to smithereens, he might get stabbed, he might come back brain dead or an amputee or a completely different person. it is just a little weird.
also to gan5 i think that Cal is just as concerend as Toby. When he staarted crying and wailing and yelling at everybody, couldn't you tell he had been concerned? When a person bottles up his anger and hurt and concernedness and scaredness for so long, then eventually it goes KABOOOOOOOOOMMMM and all that person's feelings go crazy and weird and spaz out. it's like an explosion of craziness! and it usually ends up hurting a lot of people.
For the second question, i thinkig Cal, Toby, and Zachary are friends. I didn't read that part yet, but you can kinda tell by the way they hang out so much together.

WEll bye my little pumpkin muffins!!!
I found a funny joke, but it is not in french- What do you call a dog with no legs?

It doesn't matter what you call him- no matter what he isn't gonna' come!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I LOVE ZACHARY BEAVER!!!

P.S.- have you guys seen the mvoei or the movie trailer? it came out like last january. i saw the movie trailer. it is SO different than the book. THey live in 'Granger,' and Toby is like eight, and ZAchary is not really that fat and it says he is like 400 something pounds and the STORY is completely different than the real one!!!

BYE!!

2) When Zachary finally agreed to get babtized, i was really glad. I never really thought he would say yes because he would be embaressed since he was so big and it would be hard to do it. I thought Zachary was really happy too because he finally did what he promised his mom he would do. I think that was one of the things he really wanted to do and if he didn't do it, then he probablywould think he let his mom down. I think that since Cal and Toby helped and tried really hard, it symbolizes that that they were really good friends. I think that Zachary will really miss everyone in Antler when he leaves.

It symbolizes the friendship between Cal, Toby and Zachary Beaver. I don't think Zachary has had many friends do to his weight. So to have one of his first friendships would be nice.

Yo happiness runs in a circular motion!
Well Toby is scary because he cares about Wayne too much. Cal cares about Wayne but did not show it until he dies. Wayne should not have died it made the book dull.

It was good that Zach got baptized. I think it symbolized him doing what his mother wanted. It was knd of bad that Sheriff Levi makes them clean up the lake. that rotted
MPD over and out

He probably looks up to him like an older brother. Someone who will always be there for him. Then Cal just treats Wayne like nothing. It was like Cal didn't care at all. He thought his brother would come home without a scratch on him. Toby cares because Wayne is nice to him and was like a brother to him. Zachary's baptism sybolizes that true friends will make the other friend happy. Toby wanted Zac to be happy.

Hi everybody!

I think that Zachary finally getting baptized means that he has made friends and is willing to step out of his comfort zone to keep them. He is also fulfilling one of his mother's last wishes. That must mean a lot to him personally. Zachary trusts Toby and Cal. Why else would he have allowed them to do it. He had trusted that they would be honest about how many people they were inviting. If they had invited tons of people, Zachary would have been very embarrassed. Zachary trusted Toby and Cal to help pull him back out of the water. If they hadn't, Zachary could have drowned. I think that all of these things show that Zachary has developed the base of a friendship with Toby and Cal.

Toodles!

1. I think Toby cares because he had no one to look up to except Wayne. I think that’s why Toby was concerned about Wayne. Cal was concerned about his brother serving in Vietnam. Toby was also concerned about Wayne.
2. I think it symbolizes that they would look out for each other if they ever met again.
