Prejuidice is an injury/damage to a law(like graffiti) or someone's rights(like blacks and whites). I saw it in an TV show once on Judge Judy. It was a case of a car being vandilism. On a car. Tires popped, windows damaged, key scratches, etc. I don't like that show much...to me it's boring. Sorry to anyone that likes it.

1.Prejudice is when people don't like someone or something because of how they look. One of the most known examples of prejudice is back a long time a go when whites thought they were better than African Americans so they treated them differently(worse).
2.Tolerance is having to put up with something or patience and it's important because if you are getting annoyed with someone you might just end up trying to rip their head off.

Prejudice means an unfavorible opinion or feeling and an example from real life is back when there was separate schools for black and white people. Tolerance is when you deal with other peoples differences. It is very important because if you go soewhere their will always be some african americans or chinese people and you always have to except them.

Prejudice is when someone doesnt like someone because of what they look like or the way they do things. For one thing if someone is black or purple or whatever, somebody would not like that person because of their color or religion. {There is much more too.} Like one time I read in a book that these two girls just became friends and one girl was white, the other was black. Well white girl, Jill was having slumber party and she invited her friend Amy to come to it. Well Amy came and Jills mother opened the door and said that the girl was not allowed to come into their house and sent her away. Well Jill asked why did you send Amy away? Her mom said because she was black. Isnt that horrable? I think it is.

Tolerance is when you put up with someone or something that is bothering you. It is important because you could get into trouble, fights, or both.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is when when you dont like someone because they are different, like in the olden days when white people didn't like black people. Tolerance is when you are not being mean about other peoples differences, it is important to deal with people that you think are different and they really aren't like some people might look at you and me and say oh look at that or this she looks different, and we do the same to them.

1. Prejudice is where you treat someone for what they look like, instead of treating them who they really are.
Here is an example of what prejudice is on a show I saw that this one girl really wanted this job and the manger of the place did not like colored people so she did not hire her. I think that is being prejudice.
2. I think tolerance is to deal with:to accept. It is important because you have to learn to be patient.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is where you don't like someone because there different or have different color skin or something.A example is Don Imus and the Rutgers Girls Basketball Team. Tolerance is when you can stand peoples differences or were you can stand something like pain.

1.Prejudice is when someone does something to affend the law. I watched a movie called Hoot and a police officer's cruiser got damaged because the guy who wanted to protect the owls spray painted his windows black.
2. Tolerance is when you have to wait and be patient while someone else is talking because you might feel like saying something that might affend that person physically or mentally. But you have to be careful especially when you are talking to other people in German, Chinese, Russian, French, ect. But I hpoe that everyone has areally good time in Literature Circles and we get along great!

Anonymous said...

1. Prejudice is deciding how you feel about someone or something before you know anything about them. In The Sound of Music, the Nazis were prejudice against the Austrians who wanted to be free. The Nazis were prejudice against the Jews, too, in real life.

2. Tolerance is allowing other people to have different ideas and opinions than I do. Tolerance is important so that people can live together peacefully.

Prejudice is when you don't like something or someone for no good reason. An example would be when white people don't like colored people just because they are not white like them. Tolerance is to put up with something that you don't like. It is important to be tolerant because there alot of different kinds of people and opinions in the world, so you have to learn to be accepting of others to live in peace.

1.Prejudice is when somebody has something against someome else, because they are different, for no reason. On one show I saw this lady wouldn't hire somebody because she was black.
2.Tolerance is when you put up with something. It could be differences, annoyance or other stuff. It is important because if there was no tolerance or patience in the world, the whole world would be at war. Maybe because oof those murderers and crazy people there might be a smaller population in the world.

Anonymous said...

1.Prejudice is sometimes when black doesn't like a white or a white doesn't a black. i saw it in a book with Martin Luther King.
2. Tolerance is like patience when someone is doing something you don't like.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is when people judge others (mostly bad opinions: whites and blacks, and rich and poor, especially men and women, and maybe even homeless people) without even having been around them; like in the movie Rubie Bridges. That poor little girl didn't do ANYTHING to anyone and people hated her. I've heard from some people that homeless people are just like you and me (except they have no spare clothes, no food, and no home) and people get the idea that they are trash-diggers and robbers!!!
Tolerance is like patience. It's the ability to be able to put up with something. Tolerance is VERY important because without it we would be quite uncivilized. There might be fist fights and shootings every day (not there isn't now) and everyone would be involved. It wouldn't be a pretty sight at all!!!!!!

Good point MOS5. Acceptance is very valuable and much admired by others. Nice use of humor KEM5. I do like the show Judge Judy, but I take no offense. You made a good statement. Hello, prejudice means that you don't like some people..exp (you dont like asian people.)

Tolerance means that you have to be patient and have to wait. I know a lot of people who arent very good at it but it can help in a lot of situations.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is not liking someone who is different or from another country. Like if there black or Chineise. Tolerance is trying to get used to people that are different or trying not to strangle your little sis/bro and handle it like an adault.

Prejudice
1. An opinion or an judjment formed unfairly or without knowing all facts.
2. A fixed, unreasonable, or unfair opinion about someone based on the person's race, religion, or any other characteristic.
3. Hatred or unfair treatment that results from having fixed opinions about some group of people.
Some examples of PREJUDICE is like being bullied, seperation or backs or whites, or maybe vandalism (like in my naborhood, which I hate).

Anonymous said...

Tolerance
1. The willingness to respect or accept the customs, beliefs, or opinions of others.
2. The ability to put up with or endure something such as pain or hardship.
Tolerance is important because, maybe there can be someone different in your life. That dosn't mean make fun of them. Where all equal so we should respect them.

Hello, everybody!

I think prejudice is damage to someone or something's rights or reputation. One major example of prejudice was when Rosa Parks was put in jail because she refused to give up her seat to a white person. That was a really sad time period because prejudice was everywhere. Segregation was happening everywhere you looked. It was white people not respecting the rights of people with a different color skin. Graffiti is another form of prejudice in my mind. If a city has a great reputation for being clean, it is cruel to cover it in graffiti and give people bad memories of times spent in that once beautiful city.

Tolerance is having the ability to put up with something or someone even when you don't want to because you know it is importatnt. For example, siblings are usually hard to get along with. I have a brother (who knows who he is). He gets on my nerves all the time, and I often want to rip his head off. But if I tolerate him, there are times when it is great to have someone your own age. When you tolerate someone, it can also earn you rewards. A new friend or a good memory might make your agony (or frustration) totally worth it. You never know-you might just make a friend out of that annoying kid down the street.

Hello everyone, I am happy that we can do a multi-grade blog!

Anyway, I think that prejudice is when someone can't accept who someone else is, whether it is the color of their skin, the way they talk, and even what country someone is from. A great example of prejudice is in the movie "Remember the Titans." It is a bout a football coach who takes over a team, and he is African-American. So suddenly other African-Americans come and join the football team. Not very many people like that, and the players do not get along. At one point in the movie it gets so bad that someone throws a rock through the coaches window, and scares the family. Then it gets better and the players get along very well and become good friends. At the end of the movie, one of the players is hit and paralyzed by a car, and all of his friends stick by him.

Now, I think Tolerance is when you put up with something, or someone just the way they are. Most of the time what ever it is is very hard to tolerate. An example is people that live with disabled people. They have to tolerate all of the challenges that they have to get over. Like lets say the disabled person is a mute, they put up with it until they can get some use of sign language. Another great example is when you break your arm. You have to put up with the pain until you can get a cast put on it. That is what I think prejudice and tolerance are.

See you in school.

Prejuidice is when someone doesn't like someone because they are different, like when black people were "under" white people.
Tolerance is when you have to put up with something or someone. This is important because you could get really mad at someone and end hurting them physically or emotionaly.

Hey my friends!!
This is cool that we are doing this with the 5 grade; I can’t wait to see how it goes.

What prejudice means to me is…… when someone dislikes someone else because of the way the look, what color skin, if they are not popular, and many more things. Like, mll6 used Rosa parks for an example. She stood up for herself which I think we should more often when people make us give up our seat, because we are not exactly like them. Another example of prejudice was in the last book club book we read when I was in 5 grade. They wouldn’t play with her because she was a different color skin, and in the end they started playing with her; it turned out to be a great book.

Tolerance means to put up with, to make do with what ever you‘ve got (vocab word in 5 grade). It is important because when you get older, you don’t always get what ever you want, so you have to make do with whatever you have.

P.S. Sorry I am using anonymous, my computer won’t let me do “other”.

From,

RLF6

Hello!
1. Prejudice is when you aren't treated right for a physical thing about you that you can't help.Like if you can bend your body in a ton of different ways, that's prejudice. Tolerence is being able to deal with the strange looks or the way people act towards you.

Anonymous said...

Hola! Bonjour! Hi!

1.Prejudice is when you don't like someone because of the way they look or act. For example..... in the old days how they separated blacks and whites because of their race. I mean people don't look the same. They can't help how they look.
2.I think tolerance is when you have to put up with something or someone. I can also mean to have patience. It is important to have it because you wont get annoyed with so many things.

Toodles my friends!
PS It is sad that there has only been three 6th graders post. :(

HELLO dear friends!!!! today, is a wonderful day full of power and truth.
On the subject of prejudice...it is a bad subject. evil sad stuff, this prejudice... It has always struck me as a very human thing... a bad human thing. A person experriences prejudice every day. In the news, on tv,in music, on the street, EVERYWHERE!!!!
Their is prejudice everywhere, escpecially with the whole thing about the blondes. I eman, yes, blondes are attractive and all, but brunetts are pretty too!!! AND brunettes have just as much fun.
Also, that whole thing between blacks and whites. its not always the white people who are prejudiced, though... Harry belafonte once said, "white people are the spawn of the devil." I mean, yes, we have done some badt things, but we arent all THAT bad... jeesh. He has really great songs, though.
Prejudice is everywhere. About fat people, skinny people, black people, foreign people, mexicans, whites, girs, boys, EVERBODY AND EVERYTHING!!! i think prejudice is really bad thing to do to express your dislike of someone. Some people dont likke someone from that race, or weight, or gender, and so they become prejudiced against the whole lot of them. In South PAcific, Nellie's mom is prejudiced against anyone who lives outside of Little Rock.
I HATE PREJUDICE!!! i wish it would vanish along with all the other things that have put a bad name on human kind.

hi

A) prejuidice is when somebody don't like a person or group of people.probably because they are different like their skin color or what they do.

B) tolerance is when you have put up with annoying people or things. It is important because you might get annoyed. (sometimes annoyed people are annoying)

Anonymous said...

when you have something against a person or a group, usually because of color of skin, gender, religion, ect. tolerance is being able to tolerate, or put up with some type of difference.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is when you have something against someone or something, and you are mean about it. An example of prejudice in real life is when Don Imus said mean things about the Rutgers team. It was mean and totally inappropriate. Tolerance is being able to put up with or accept something or someone. I think tolerance is important because there are a lot of bad people and things in this world and you have to learn to tolerate them.

Anonymous said...

an example of prejudice is when 'white' people used to not like african american('black') people because of the color of their skin.

1)Prejudice is when you or someone else doesn't like someone for a bad reason.

2)Tolerance is when you are being annoyed by someone and you are like stop it and they say have some tolerance and you have to be patient.

Anonymous said...

A) I think prejudice is what everybody has said. Not liking a person for racial, religious or reasons of their own liking. (clothing, shoes, prettiness) reasons. One example is if I didn't like a Mexican because they were mexican. Just like what everybody else said.

B)Tolerance is to put up with stuff by using patience. It is important because without it everything would just be a big rush of yelling for things to get done faster.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is the intolerance of someone who is different from someone esle. Martin Luther King protested against it in some places in the world it is still happening. Tolerance helps us live peacefully because it is an acceptance of others who are different. We need to have tolerance because we all deserve rights. How would you feel if you were treated unjustly because of being different in a way that you can't change? (Such as skin color, race, gender, nationality, religion, etc..)

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is when you dislike someone for something they believe in or their race. Don Imus said a racist remark on the radio. Tolerate is how patient you can be, so you won't get mad as fast.

Anonymous said...

An adverse opinion without sufficient knowledge about it. In WW2 Hitler had a prejudice against Jews becuase he said that they ruined the German economy. Tolerance is the capacity to resist pain or hard times and it is important becuase you won't get as hurt

Anonymous said...

I think that ddg6 is right but I think a little differently because prejudiced i you don't like someone because if they speak a different way.

Anonymous said...

Wow, you have to read a lot of blogs when there are two grades involved, but I like hearing so many different opinions.

In my opinion prejudice is when someone is disliked for some reason,in most cases it is because they are different. When people think of prejudice they automatically remember whites and blacks. This is because this is one of the most severe cases of it. But, when I think of prejudice I think of the Holocaust and what an awful thing that was for someone to kill someone becuase they had different beliefs.

Tolerance to me when it is involved with prejudice is learning to deal with something and not be so afraid. We have to learn to deal with things and accept others for what they are, no matter how different they may be. Differences are what makes the world go around and we should tolerate and accept them.

Anonymous said...

1. I think pejudice is when someone dosen't like someone because of their color or their Personality or because their not popular. I know this because it happend at my old school once when a person who was not popular tried to sit at the a table where popular people were sitting that one didn't go so well because he was walking when a popular person spilled some milk on the floor and he tripped and fell the tray snapped on half he was covered in his lunch.

2. tolerance is when a friend for example wants you to do something you don't want to do but you have to do any way and put up with it.

Anonymous said...

Hi!

PREJUDICE
Is when someone doesnt like someone because of how they look. Skin color, clothes ect..an example is in the movie My Dog Skip. The two colors have different good sport players. Two kids b and w are friends but noone else wants them to be friends.

TOLERANCE
is to put up with someone or something that may be annoying. I think it is important because without tolerance in the world everyone would be screaming at everyone and yelling.

Have fun reading!!!

Prejuidice is like someone thinking that they are better than you. Or it could be about rights. An example is Don Imus.
Tolerance is when you pretend to not care when someone is being mean to you. You con just ignore them.

Hello!

1. Prejudice mean you judge someone for what they like, what langue they speak an well, you get the idea. An example is like you say someone is weird because they are black.

2. Tolerance is good to have so if someone is teaseing you you will not seack revenge.

Hello everyone! I am really looking forward to literature circles! I think prejudice is when people take away rights of someone who people feel is not there equal. I saw this an example of prejudice in Ruby Bridges (a movie.) Ruby was accepted to an all white school. She was ignored by others and was treated very badly.
To have tolerance is basically having to put up with something or someone. It is really important to have tolerance so that you do not hurt others even if they hurt you.

Anonymous said...

Hi Everyone!
1.) I think that prejudice is when you don't like someone because of their appearance, a person's race was a common form of someone being prejudice or segregation in the 1960's. Usually because they don't like you they treat you badly and don't treat you as fairly or as well as they treat others. An example of this would be when Ruby Bridges was the first African American to go to school.
2.) I completely agree with "mll6" on this one. tolerance is when you put up with someone, even when you don't want to. This is a very good gift to have sometimes it is extremely hard to not get mad and 'have a cow' especially when people get aggravating.

Anonymous said...

1.Prejudice means to be mean or inconsederate if someone because they are diffrent in any way such as skin color, or being smarter. An example of this is the Civil WAR.
2.Tolerance is the opposite, it means to be excepting of differinces.

NUMBER ONE :

Well, prejudice basicly means your opinoin or judgment about somthing that either makes someone else mad, or just isn't the nicest thing to say to someone.

It doesn't happen as much now compared how it use to be like. How whites where "better" than the colors. Let is ide already.

NUMBER TWO:

Tolerance is basicly patiance. You need to be calm and settle.

Adios. I will now go to school! fun fun fun!

Anonymous said...

1} Prejudice is a thought of when someone does or doesn't like someone else. An example of prejuidice is when you don't like someone because the color of the skin. I have seen this in many movies.

2} Tolerance is the opposite of prejudice. It is judging people by their actions not because the color of their skin, if their a man or a women, or if their different in any way.

Anonymous said...

Prejudice is when you do not like someone because their skin color or posesions. Well an example is like in the 1800's they were very prejudice against black people. They had different schhols for black people. Even different restrooms for black people. It was crazy, all because of skin color.

Tolerance is like if someone annoys you there is only so much you can handle. So if I poked you for 10 minutes you would probably scream and whack me. It is good to have tolerance because if you do not have it you will get frustrated with 2 year olds. Well I am annoying but really being called names for it is not fun. Yes I know I am annoying but being made fun of is not good.

Anonymous said...

prejudice is hard to define in one blog post. the easiest way to describe it is based on your own private experiences. i will not share mine here because of obvious reasons. (such as them being private) it usually has something to do with differences such as race and religion. an example would be in the civil war. that was prejudice, and that prejudice started a war which is another reason why tolerance is important tolerance is accepting these differences. if you can't tolerate these differences, nobody will like you.
bee happy! blog!

Prejuidice is were white or black people dont like the others skin color or if how other people look.

You all make excellent points!!

MCS- I LOVE Remember the Titans. Not all movies show the difficulties that people have in overcoming their prejudices. I loved that this movie didn't skip over hard part in the middle to get to a happy ending.

EMK -- Thank you for making some connections to some current day issues. Many people believe that prejudice is something that happened in history. Predjudice is found all around us. That is why it is so important for us to learn about it so we can recognize it, and work to change it.

Ms.Y said...

AAH -- I really liked your definition of tolerance. You are showing the other definition of tolerance -- not just keeping your patience, but showing acceptance to someone that is different than you.

Hello my wonderful peps! Ya next week the 6th grade is so going to beat the 5th grade! IT'S ON! Ok, anyway.... the first question:
Prejudice... I think that it means when someone doesn't like you for a certian reason.
For example real life not to long ago white people where prejudice agianst black people because they didn't like the color of there skin and did not like there difference! Ok well I can't beleive that people actually did that because that's just down right wrong! They were meany heads... Ok. Now the second question:
What is tolerance... well thats a really good question let me look it up, he he sorry Ms. Y ...... ok tolerance is when I think someone is accepting your difference. It is important because if there was no tolerance then people would be very unhappy and would be very rude!
Well must be going ok good bye my fellow readers!

P.S. Sixth grade will beat the 5th grade next time! Our competitive side is out and it's on! You are going down.

Prejudice is when you do not like someone because they look different or talk different. An example is in a Rosa Parks book I read when people don't like her because she is African American.

luPrejudice is when people hate each other for what they look like. I really feel bad about this because people are created equally. I saw this in a video of Martin Luther king Jr.
I think tolerance is the opposite thing of prejudice. It is like showing hospitality to others who are different from us. It is important because we have to accept other people.

Hello my 5th and 6th grade friends, I am so excited to see everyone posting again. I can’t wait till we start this new book. My new book is called The Watson’s go to Birmingham. It was the book I wanted to read last time but instead my group and I picked Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster boy. I am looking forward to reading everyone’s awesome blog posting.
Ok here is my fabulous answer to the FIRST question! Wait what is it again? Ok I have to go and check. Ok I got it now. Hooray for me. I think prejudice means to judge someone before you get to know and understand them and their heritage. The most famous book and movie about prejudice is ROOTS. Also another example is TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD. My mom said that is just wasn’t prejudice about blacks and whites, but it was prejudice about the rich and the poor. I want to read it. I might have already but I don’t remember if I did or not. I have to agree with EMK when she says that prejudice isn’t just about the blacks, the whites or even the rich and the poor it’s also about fat, skinny, tall, short or anything. That is such a great point because all people study is what material is in their history books but they don’t realize that it’s everyday life and all around them.
Tolerance to me is just like patience, also to have a fair, objective attitude towards other people’s opinions, practices, races, and religions. Also it means to be understanding of other people’s differences. You have to have tolerance with other people. It is so important because it is such a life skill to be able to communicate and to work with other people.
Well, that is all the knowledge that I can share with you for today. I have to go eat dinner because I am starved. Good-bye and Good-night.
